Today was (coincidentally to the North East blackout) the 56th aniversary of Pakistan's Independence Day. And no matter what I do or where I live, I will always know where I was born... in Pakistan.
For those of you who only know Pakistan as a desert nation full of towelheads, I'd like to let you know that Pakistan does have everything we have here, from McDonald's and motorways to broadband Internet and it's own version of Google. You can easily find the latest Penthouse issue at a bookstore, an America hating Mullah on the street or even quality Bolskaya Vodka from Murree Brewery, one of the oldest breweries in Asia. It's a very diverse country... I mean people do ocassionally kill each other based on their race or religion, but hey, atleast u can't get sued for being a racist there. Btw, Penthhouse publishers declared bankruptcy yesterday. Anyway, here's a nice site to visit if you want to learn more about Pakistan.
Pakistan was founded by a British educated Muslim Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who believed that the Muslims of India would be better off after independence if they were to live in a country based on their religious beliefs, rather an Hindu dominated society. Stanley Wolpret, an English biographer wrote this about Jinnah:
"Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Mohammad Ali Jinnah did all three."
Pakistan is sure a very nice country to live in. Unlike over here, life is pretty laid back... you can be an hour late to an appoitment, that's no big deal. But I like living here more, I mean I like utilizing all my time, not wasting it. Plus I hate it when it's too hot and too humid, not that New York's any better when it comes to being humid. :p
Still I know I would never be able to take Pakistan out of me.
Happy Birthday Pakistan :)
I came back from Pakistan recently-and the lifestyle there is just wicked! It was SO fun..something about Pakistan is real nice and special..it's got so much places to go, so much scenery, so much versatility..
