I stopped being a wrestling fan long before Hulk Hogan's first official retirement. So naturally when I see wrestlers with acting skills in the margin lines starring in big budget movies, it ticks me off. I hated it when people flocked to see "The Scorpion King". Similarly when "The Rundown" came out last friday, I didn't expect myself to even consider spending $9 to see this one on the big screen. But last friday I did, and I am more than glad about my decision. So must be alot of others, although some found it just a regular action flick.
The Rundown has some of the best live action fight sequences I've seen. I really love the amazon jungle-style fight scene, which although probably involved alot of wire work, worked perfectly. The Rock, born Dwayne Douglas Johnson, really showed that he knows how to act. Sean William Scott was good as always, but I believe that all the characters he's been playing lately have had this taste of "Stifler" in them, which is not a bad thing at all.
The movie has some excellent excellent editing, especially when combining CG objects with some of the best real Amazon footage I've ever seen. The movie follows the trail of repo bigman Beck (Rock) who has to get his boss' son Travis (Scott) from deep inside the Amazon back to L.A. Christopher Walken plays the bad guy, a gold mine owner. I just love the way Walken talks, he's the best of the best when it comes to uttering dialogs that sound nothing like dialogs. Oh, and the girl from Men in Black II, Rosario Dawson, is in there too.
I enjoyed this movie... and if it wasn't for my friends constantly glowing cell phone that kept zapping text messages back and forth, I would have enjoyed it "alot". I hate cell phones, atleasy during a movie. So next time you go into a movie, just turn the fucking thing off.
And hey, I'm not gonna rent "The Scorpion King" anytime soon.
