Napster's Back

Roxio, which had earlier purchased the rights to the Napster brand name and then took over the PressPlay.com, has announced the revamped Napster 2.0. But don't freak out just yet, it's not actually Napster, but with 99 cents a song and 500,000 tracks to choose from, it's something like Buymusic.com based on PressPlay's technology. They are however trying to keep the community spirit by stressing features like message boards, shared playlists, and the ability to "share" music via email... I would how that one would work? hmm... People who pre-register with before Oct. 29, will get 5 free songs.

The company also launched a branded Samsung YP-910GS 20GB music player that comes with an FM tuner for $399. Combine the two together, and the Napster brand recognition among the young and the restless, Napster 2.0 is surely to give iPod and iTunes a run for it's money (although most Mac'ies have most probably already started bitching about how Napster 2.0 sucks). Note that Apple is highly likely to announce iTunes for Windows at a media event on Oct. 16th. Stay tuned.

Anyway, this is all crap. What I am really looking forward to is China's first manned space flight which is going to happen sometime between Oct. 15 and 17. Goodluck to them.
