Killing without sense

Israel yesterday "destroyed" the spiritual head and founder of violent militant group Hamas. The contrast in opinions is as expected, balls are rejoicing, the President is approving and world is condemning. So let me jump on the "bandwagon" too...

Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, age 66, founded Hamas in 1987 as a pro-violence militant group who's main objectives included the destruction of the state of Israel. He denounced every major peace accord. But, he was also halfblind and quadriplegic, some one who's paralyzed in both arms and both legs. Although guarded by bodyguards, his daily life was routine enough not to even require any serious efforts of espionage. And so he was killed while returning for his usual pre-dawn prayers at the same mosque that he went to everyday.

Let me borrow a question from the opinionatedjerks.com, why kill him now when Israel is about to withdraw from the Gaza strip? Some say, "to show that they are not withdrawing 'cause of weakness, rather tactics." Now my own question, what the fuck is wrong with the idiots running Israel?

The U.S. as we speak, is trying to build, and rebuild, international support to stop global terrorists organizations like the AL-Qaeda. But everytime we see a ray of hope, these people senselessly screw up something to make things harder that ever for the U.S. For example, publicly, things seemed calm in Iraq, but now the same friggin' riots have started accross the country, and all anger is of course directed towards the coalition.

Israel keeps trying to be big daddy, when it lacks the sense of responsiblity that any nation should have. Comparing bin Laden and the U.S. war on Al-Qaeda to it's own occupation regime and targeted killings of militants may be a great analogy to sell at Capitol Hill, but in the real world, all it can do is incite more hatred towards Israel. Which, under all circumstances leads to hatred towards the U.S. (even the CS Monitor agrees to this one), something that we really don't need, especially when it's incited with events funded by US taxpayers' dollars. Not now, not ever.

Yes I will rejoice when we catch or kill bin Laden, because he is the brains and the pocket behind Al-Qaeda. But Yassin, on the day he died, was just a show figure who lacked the ability to plan attacks or personal assets to finance any. This guy, although dead, is now worth more to the propaganda machine of Hamas, to lure more desperate and young Palestinians into strapping bombs to their waist and blowing up innocent people and themselves. All because Sharon wanted to show that Israel isn't gonna give up that easily, without giving any consideration to the diplomatic and security consequences of such an action.

Well, what can I do? except to ponder the intentions of both parties... neither of whom seem to be really wanting peace. On the "lighter notes" on this event, Joshua Claybourn has compared the similarities between the Sheikh and Saruman. Was that in bad taste? Yeah, kind of. But, if you look at it from my point of view, the guy looked no different than any elderly hasidic Jewish guy you see on the street. After all, these people are cousins, just that they don't seem to be gettin' it! Stupid assholes. Yeah, both sides.
