Google recently made some changes to it's web design, adding a froogle link to the main page, removing the colored tabs and creating a more user friendly iconified page for other services, most of which could previously only be found on the Google Labs page. Here's my thoughts on the changes that I've posted at the SitePoint Forums discussion on the same topic:
I'd noticed this design during test a couple of months back... they even tried linear background fade gifs for the search again and search time bars, but that would've been a bit too flashy in Googlish standards.
I don't really care about the design though, it's the same thing minus the tabs, which if continued with when Froogle or any other services were to be added might have exceeded the screen width in smaller resolutions... so that's probably one of the reasons they took 'em out.
On the other hand, I really really don't like the way Adword results now seem almost identical in their format to regular search results. I think they should bring back those little green boxes.
Anyway, I still google. And it's still great.
P.S. I'm looking into a new entry page for this site also, or may be a few new pages... stay tuned!
