I just finished watching "Lost in Translation" for the nth time. Somehow, the more I see this movie the more I like it. Three cheers to Sofia Coppola for this masterpiece (she's also the creative genius behind 'The Virgin Suicides'). Ok, this one may sound a bit weird, but movies like these give me strength to live. They really inspire me alot. The funny part is I don't even know how to define 'movies like these'.
And once again, what the hell does he say to her in the end?
(Actually, let me take this one myself!)
That's really a question that a part of me wants never to be officially answered. Mostly because it gives me an oppurtunity to imagine. There are theories out there that suggest that he simply tries to tell her to get back with her husband. That's not what I wanna hear though. I think he gives her a plan that would bring them together, and then simple says, "so don't worry, I'll see you soon... ok?". To which she simply says ok and smiles. That's my interpretation. Make yours up and let me know.
Here's a great review of the movie for your reading pleasure. You might also wanna try interviews of Bill Murray and others about their experiences during LiT or a translation of the ad shoot scene. Lastly, it'd be a ripoff if I didn't say anything about Scarlett Johannson... she really acted like she wasn't acting at all.
Very unhollywoodic indeed.
