GMail is a red hot cyber commodity. It's so hot that has inspired it's very own swapping services and the usually less-techno conversative community to setup a project to make sure those soldiers fighting in Iraq have one of these pretigious online accounts.
I personally didn't want one that bad. But it's only so much that I can hold the temptations. So after learning yesterday that GMail's invitation prices
have crashed mainly due to increased supplies, I went to get one for myself for free. How? It's very simple, just go to Feedster or Daypop and search on GMail invitation and you'd get people who are simply giving away free invites to commenters on their blogs. I did the same on three blogs and by this morning I had not one but two invites in my inbox. So I signed up and the first thing I got while trying to login was this darn 502 error. Shit. Nice start. Anyway, once in I realized that although the interface is much much better than almost all other free email providers, basic features still lack. Like the option to get email from my other pop3 and imap account to be dumped into my GMail inbox. So for now I can either send copies on incoming emails in my other accounts to GMail, just no use it, or wait untill the plug is officially pulled on it. Atleast I got my first name address.
Stay tuned for my free invite givaway. ;)
[Update 6/30/04] If you would like to receive an invitation, please check this entry.
Posted in Tech Stuff on June 21, 2004 1:18 PMGood, so we are waiting to hear some untold stories about Gmail. Do you think its culturally sound too?
Posted by: Ejaz Asi at June 22, 2004 1:15 PMWell, I'm so busy, with "nothing", that I didn't even login once after signing up
By the way, do you need an invitation:question:
Posted by: Haydur at June 22, 2004 10:26 PMhi haydur. if i say, i need an invitation - will ya invite me?
Posted by: den at June 23, 2004 7:20 AMWould an invitation hurt me? Though, honestly, I do have my own one but a friend of mine's asking and I may not be expecting much from Google myself as I may not be using Gmail much. Just wanted to test. And if there was some hype, it's already withered for me, so nothing so glamorous. But it's still better than the rest, not the best - not yet! This pop thingy really haunts me too :(
Posted by: Ejaz Asi at June 23, 2004 6:08 PMHi there,
Can I please be sent an invitation to a GMail account? I have just started a small business and I am not very happy with the mail server that is provided with my IP Address hosters, as its unreliable and down most of the times, causing a lot of important e-mails from prospective clients to go missing. Having an account that can store upto a Gig and being able to search and sort client e-mails would be a gift from the gods... in this case probably yourself !! :)
Thanks in advance,
Manohar
Please send me a Gmail invitation
