What's with Gmail?

Why is everyone freaking out about getting a Gmail account. I mean come on! Ok, the interface is probably a lot better than other free services, but it doesn't have everything. For one thing, I really don't like that I can't make any folders. I mean what the fuck do you want me to do with filters if I can't make any folders? They are saying, "search don't sort", but excuse me, I really don't want to search on "amazon" to get that order confirmation email from Amazon for that stupid textbook than I ordered two weeks ago from this new seller which hasn't yet arrived. Duh!

[Then I went to check something on Gmail]

Ok. Stupid me. The labels feature in Gmail works the same way as folders. But fuck that, I still found a flaw. The filters that are supposed to help you "sort" your emails into these "labels" only apply to new incoming mail and cannot be applied to messages already in your inbox. Ha... I got you Google.

But, what can I do, people are still hungry like the zombies from Dawn of the Dead to get a Gmail account. Suckers.

The filters work just fine, infact an instant preview of those messages being affected by your current filter is shown. I don't know which filter did you apply and why didn't it work. As for folders, I somehow find them nice as they provide a visual clue even if the mail is in standard inbox and come on, give gmail a pat for providing a copy of the mail to the labelled folder as well as in inbox so that you don't miss something important. Also, you should have appreciated the fact the lilttle arrow and arrows as well as labels names indicating in inbox which email may correspond to who... I also appreciated the conversation style which was my biggest wishlist... but since I have been using my own server's mailbox, I dont have much to do with it. And Gmail has come a long way I guess to where we see it now. And it sure needs to improve a lot but when other email service providers like Yahoo, hotmail couldn't provide these small features Gmail dared to offer, can we be little considerate to appreciate their efforts? I mean if we could.

Ok, Ejaz Sa'hab. But, gosh, I didn't dis Gmail totally... But don't you agree, filters cannot be implemented on current content. Tested and viewed yes, but not implemented. Right?

Filters cannot be implemented on current content, but if you simply apple the label to something that is in your inbox, and then hit the archive button, you will then only see that email when you click on the name of the label.

I think what you missed is the Archive feature. Once you apply a label, and hit archive, you will only see that email when you click on that particular label on the left side. So essentially, it does apply the filters to things that are in your inbox. You just have to archive them.

And even better, you can apply multiple labels to an email, and will be filtered in multiple categories.

Hope that helps.
