This entry chronicles the events of 10/14/04. A very eventful thursday...
It was the openning day of the Digital Life consumer technology show in New York City. I had already bought the tickets online and was supposed to leave at around 12, so that me and J can make there in time for the 2 o'clock openning.
Waking up early was easy, because nerds like get excited on events like these just as sophomores get excited about attending prom. But pretty much right after waking up, the news came, my girlfriend had lost my beloved digicam. My first and only digicam... my precious...
We concluded that it got stolen from her bag while she was busy talking to one of her friends about the latest hollywood gossip. No big deal, I kept calm, and focused on the money I had made during the past month with GOOG, enough to buy a brand new A95. Or may be I'll win something big at DigitalLife... who knows?
But first I had to take a bIO class. Soon after the class finished I got usual 2-hours-before-deadline-cancellation call. Darn, J's mom had an appointment with the doctor, so he had to bail out. I got crazy mad like usual, since this was like the 53,439,128th time he did this.
So I then actually had to take the bus to Manhattan, and walk like ten blocks to get Javits Center from the bus terminal, but the exhibition itself was worth it.
The place wasn't as big as I'd want it to be. And not everyone was there. But Microsoft, Google, AOL, Intel are good enough, so I can't complain much.
At the Google booth, I met Orkut, the man himself. In the beginning I couldn't believe myself, what the fuck is be doing giving demos on Orkut? But I guess it made sense. I was signed up for a free invitation (which I still haven't received yet!). Also, for the first time I found out about a new Google service from a living being, turns out Desktop Search was launched earlier that same day. At Motorola I got to see the MpX, my future phone. At Microsoft, I grabbed a free copy of Windows Media Player 10, and I don't even know why I did that.
Even with the lower than expected exhibitor, I discovered how little I knew about tech... BenQ has cellphones? There were duds too, like BestBuy with their stupid home-theatre-in-a-trailer where their oh-so-cool wired fridges.
In the end I left the exhibition, with the usual bulk of literature and free goodies: a Google mouse pad, an extremetech cd case, and a caricature of myself courtesy of Auto Scetch Pro.
Fun day with some ugly moments.
Two days later, we found the camera, it was under her car's drivers seat. Duh!
