The last few days have been tough. Headaches, server overloads, flat tires, hate mail... you name it. But let me just focus on what's going on with the now "infamous" BollyCat.com project.
The site got a huge boost when Chidu Rajghatta wrote an article about it in the Times of India, which I am told is arguably the world's largest English daily. But the boost was too much for my MT installation to handle, and combined with the comment and trackback spam I was getting already, it wrecked havoc on the machine my account was on. Naturally, my webhost had to close public access to my sites. That was around 7 a.m. in the morning, almost 6 hours after the article first appeared on TOI's website.
Anyway, I got the site back up at 9:35, only get it suspended again at 9:55. So, as a scientist came up with my hypothesis, "this site is pissing off a lot of people".
But not everyone is sending me Pak-bashing degratory messages... for every hate mail, there's a fan mail. People who like the site, and think it's good for the industry, or good just because they dislike Bollywood altogether. Not Pakis, but Indians.
That brings me to a point that should have mentioned earlier. Yes I don't like Bollywood masala movies. But I do like a few of 'em, read the one-movie rule in my last entry. And I love Bollywood music... a lot of it. From Veer Zara's Tere Liye to Tere Naam's Tere Naam, I love Hindi music.
But, none of that really matters to those who just think of me and my site as some desperate jealous Pakistanis attempts to discredit their beloved movie industry. But that's something I expected all along, because if tomorrow an Indian makes a similar site (sorry, Lollycat.com is already registered), all Pakistanis would be equally pissed and tell their neighbors to mind their business (although with a heavy dose of Pakistan being the most miserable place). It's all in the blood, the culture, and the attitude of Indians and Pakistanis, since they are all the same. Thank God I know my family didn't originate here.
The site came back up later that same afternoon, and the traffic spiked again, along with the flood of movies that people are submitting at a rate of roughly one every 10 minutes, although a lot of them are already listed. Thanks to all those who like the idea.
P.S. Commenting and trackbacks are disabled on this blog, until we figure out how to block spam and comment attacks.
