After having a tv dinner at Friday's tonight, and then spending the rest of time toiling in the West Nyack Barnes & Noble, I just managed the catch a glimpse of the last moments of the Oscars, with sound I should add.
Leaving home at 7:00 I had totally forgotten about them until we sat down at our table at TGI Friday's and found myself at the ever similar Joan and Melissa's red carpet preshow. Even Grace abandoned her side of the booth to join me in staring at the TV from our 45 degree viewing angle, without any audio. It was still very much fun to read Chris Rock give his opening sermon which enveloped everything from "Fahrenheit 9/11" to (MIA this year) Russell Crowe.
But by then our server had moved up his patrol and it was obvious that he wanted that table clean before closing. So finally I gave up, finishing that last buffalo wing and leaving him with an over-the-standard tip. And that too after he failed to explain how the three course meanl $12.99 deal had vanished from that Friday's location while it was still up on the website.
Coming back to the Academy Awards, I was really hoping that De Caprio would win tonight, but my wish was more based how I (still) think that he got robbed for his performance in "Titanic", and not on his or Jamie Fox's current performances. Or may be he's a victim of one of those weird conspiracies when a good actor is kept away from an Oscar until he's old enough to get a "Life Time Achievement Award".
