First of all, Google is NOT bringing StarOffice to the web. That's complete BS. What Google and Sun are really doing is piggy-backing each others software (Google Toolbar and Sun JVM) on to each others products. That's nothing new, Google Toolbar is already bundled with other software.
I can't believe the hatred towards Microsoft that prevails among geeks and nerds. Being the most successful sure makes a lot more enemies, ask Google. But still, cheering and speculating everything that might put a dent in (or bring down) Microsoft is just plain ignorant. Just like this story on Google bringing an open source alternative to MS Office to the web for free, thus killing Microsoft's money maker. But who will use this free web-based Office alternative? You and me, sure. But not real "offices", where people make real sales reports and type confidential memos. Corporations will never allow their secrets to be typed into a webpage hosted by Google (or Microsoft, or whatever). And since these corporations are the biggest MS Office customers, I don't see a web-based office impacting Microsoft's core business.
But still, AJAX is cool.
