What exactly is Google Base? Well, as of right now there are only rumors, and a couple of screenshots.

From all the vague information available so far, it's a submission service to add content that would supliment Google's other search tidbits, like if today you search for a movie, it tell's you the rating and the theaters it's playing it, and tomorrow when you search for a house and it would show you listings submitting through Google Base. Or Froogle searches will return Base-submitted items first, like a used iPod. Oh, and before I forget Google Base will be further complimented by Google Purchases, a payment system all set to rival PayPal. But, it won't all be limited to things for sale, the main page screenshot says you can even submit a database of protein structures. Interesting.
