Web 2.0.1

Seems like Web 2.0 is being totally over-used. Everywhere you see there's Web 2.0... But is it really that good? I mean flickr is good, but I still use stock.xchng more. YouTube and Google Video are great, but I can't stand them deleting content every friggin' day. Especially when I have to keep an updated media gallery for multimedia hungry Desi teenagers. So for personal use, to download videos, p2p still is the best choice. Tagging is good, but does it really beat categorized directories?

So why did I call this entry Web 2.0.1? Well, I think pretty soon, the 'ordinary man' will take control of Web 2.0. Soon all this Ajax stuff will be demystified and built-in the next Frontpage and Dreamweaver. Combine that with constantly lowering bandwidth and webspace costs, and any Joe would be able to host his own YouTube (I already do something like that with Orb). Soon the "dark-side of Google video" will be brought to light, not by Google, but by genre fans. Like Bollywood fans would love to see fresh websites holding freely viewable content not loaded with constant popups, such as today's Smashits.

Oh, and if this seems like a rant, it's because Google's been deleting Bollywood content by the tons during the past few days. Even perfectly legal shot clips and previews aren't being spared. And all this is mostly due to self-appointed rightious blogging Indians who're buying too much in to the whole IP / copyright infringements craze. Frankly, I don't care if Google censors pictures in China; as long as they don't buy into ranting bloggers. Excluding myself, of course.
